The resurgence of flare jeans is yet another example of how fashion trends are cyclical, often drawing inspiration from past decades.

Paddle Up! The sport of pickleball is seeing massive growth in interest, and with it, pickleball paddle sales.
Pickleball, the perfect blend of tennis and ping pong is a fun sport for any age and athleticism level.
This accessibility is a major contributing factor to the sport’s rapid growth.
Pickleball paddles are often made from fiberglass, graphite, or carbon fiber, with each material offering different levels of responsiveness, weight, and durability.

There are currently ~1M monthly searches for pickleball, just 2 years ago that number was 250k.
There are ~73k monthly searches for “Pickleball courts near me” due to the different court markings required to play.
The meteoric rise in popularity of pickleball gave way to an entire industry of products and services. One of those being paddles.
The price of a paddle goes from $30 all the way up to $300+ based on the quality, material, and brand.

Selkirk Sports Store - This widely recognized paddle brand is doing an estimated $500k a month in sales on Amazon with this $80 set of pickleball paddles. They also offer higher-end paddles like this one which is doing over $300k a month.
Recess Pickleball - This company hits the market of players who don’t resonate with the existing designs of pickleball paddles. Recess offers trendy unique paddles with muted colors, abstract art, and Gen-Z written all over it.

Ozempic (8,800%)
Unexpected Weight Loss Trend. Originally approved by the FDA to treat Type 2 diabetes, Ozempic is experiencing a massive wave in popularity as an off-label weight loss solution.
Ozempic is a medication that contains the active ingredient semaglutide.
Semaglutide was initially developed to regulate blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of a heart attack in people with Type 2 diabetes.
However, recently, Ozempic gained a reputation as a medication that can potentially deliver weight loss benefits. This led to a reported 373k prescriptions filled in the last week of February 2023 alone.
How does Ozempic work for weight loss?
Ozempic works by mimicking the effects of a hormone called GLP-1, which is responsible for regulating appetite and blood sugar levels.
By taking the drug the user will have reduced hunger and increased feelings of fullness.
Like many other trends, the popularity of Ozempic started on social media where celebrities like Elon Musk, attributed the drug to helping lose 30 lbs.
Its worth noting that the use of the medication for weight loss is not approved by the FDA and can have side effects that are not 100% understood.
For example, one side effect is being dubbed ‘Ozempic Face’.
Its described as accelerated aging of “gauntness and skin sagging” due to the rapid weight loss from the drug as stated by NYC dermatologist Paul Jarrod Frank, MD.
